Division of Nature Preserves and Natural Resources

The Copperhead Island boat ramps at McDowell Nature Preserve have been re-opened as of Monday October 5, 2015. Two of four boat ramps are currently open with the increase in water levels on Lake Wylie. The remaining ramps will likely be re-opened by Saturday, October 10.

The Division of Nature Preserves and Natural Resources is responsible for the protection and conservation of Mecklenburg County's parks designated as Nature Preserves.

Nature Preserves protect the county's biological resources and natural areas, while providing opportunities for environmental education, nature-based programs, and outdoor recreation.

Our staff offer more than 5,000 programs annually, perform natural resource management, maintain more than 30 miles of nature trails, 6,500 acres, 3 nature centers, and a public campground.
