The recreation center is named for Wallace Pruitt; an esteemed resident of the Seversville Community affectionately known to neighbors as "The Mayor of Seversville." He is the president of the Seversville Neighborhood Association. When resident’s quality of life was threatened due to the exodus of residents, zoning changes and other issues, Mr. Pruitt rallied the residents of Seversville to go before the Charlotte City Council and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners for neighborhood improvements and enhanced park facilities. Neighbors petitioned the Park and Recreation Commission to name the center in his honor. The center was dedicated November 05, 2009.
