WHATS NEW!

Zumba Fit-Let's Zumba! This Latin-dance inspired fitness class uses international rhythms and dance moves for an invigorating and exciting workout!  The cost is $5 per class. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 6pm-7:30pm.  All fitness levels welcome. For more information contact Beth Anderson at 704.201.7670.

Virtuous Diamond in a Ruff - This program is design to encourage sisterhood, spiritual, self-esteem, and education among girls and young women within the community. Make new friends and talk about what's going on. Learn to embrace similarities and differences within us all through interactive games and activities. Families Eating Smart and Moving More - EFNEP offer practical nutrition information, food preparation, food resources management and food safety education in settings convenient for the participants. Using 'hands-on' experiences, participants are taught to make wise choices with their food dollar; improve eating habits; and practice food safety principles. Summer Camps


Charlotte Elite Enrichment & Recreation Summer Camp: This multi-dynamic program will provide a unique summer experience, designed to enhance participants' development in critical thinking, social skills and health & physical wellness.  Through fun filled 21st Century curriculum activities and sports recreation, campers will gain self-esteem, self confidence while enjoying new experiences and creating lasting memories. Charlotte Cheer Elite Camp: This camp is designed to introduce young ladies to the fundamentals of cheerleading in an exciting, encouraging, and safe environment!  Campers will have the opportunity to bond with others who share the same desire to learn and master the cheer sport while in addition participating in afternoon group activity and discussions on positive choices, peer pressure, and building self -esteem. Sports Camp: Our sports camp will enhance children's knowledge and development of non-traditional and traditional sports. Youth & Teens:

4-H Health & Fitness: Participants will learn and engage in healthy lifestyles centered around the 4-H Health Rocks and Staying Healthy curricula. For more information call 704.567.1941.

Afro Russe Dance Class: This program is designed to inspire, build strong character, and give students an all around cultural and dance experience by fusing African, Ballet, and Contemporary Dance. This class is offered to students ages 8 and older and meets every Thursday. For more information, contact Elsie Mufuka at 843.441.8803.

Charlotte Cheer Elite Cheer & Gymnastics: Ready for the Next Level! This program is  designed to introduce young ladies age 6 to 12 to the fundamentals of cheerleading in an exciting, encouraging, and safe environment! Cheer Elite’s staff is eager to provide challenging instruction in gymnastics, cheer motions, jumps, stunts and dance. North Carolina Dance Community Outreach: This program provides free, accessible, high quality dance instruction and performance opportunities to over 41 students here at the recreation center from ages 7 to 10. Selection for this program will be determined by open auditions for boys and girls, financial need and commitment of the parents to the program. Young Achievers: This program is designed for boy and girls ages 14-17.  This program is based on teaching young teens the importance of integrity, independence, leadership and moral stability. We will encourage positive and critical thinking, promote self-respect, teach life skills, and develop leadership qualities. For more information contact 704-567-1941.

Start Smart Program: This program is designed for girls and boys ages 3 to 5. Participants will learn the basic motor skills necessary to play organized baseball, basketball, soccer, and football while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. Focus is on teaching basic fundamentals as well as speed and agility. For more information call 704-567-1941.

Young Champions Of America-Cheerleading, Hip Hop Dance, and Self Defense
Cheerleading:
Students ages 5 to 15 are taught cheerleading techniques such as cheers and chants with arm motions, jumps, leaps and mounts. Classes are held every Friday  from 6 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.

Hip Hop Dance: This class is designed to promote coordination, confidence, artistic expression and physical fitness through the development of rhythmical awareness and dance education for students ages 6 and older. Classes are held every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm
 
Self Defense: Incorporates the most effective defense techniques from many martial art systems with a comprehensive safety awareness course to develop an unparalleled curriculum for students ages 5 to 15. Youth Athletics:
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation offers a wide variety of athletic programs to youth participants throughout the year. All youth athletics programs are Recreation Center based and take place at various parks and recreation centers throughout Mecklenburg County. Power Walking: This program is designed to provide a simple yet effective way to give your whole body a thorough workout. You may also discover that power walking opens you to new experiences and that it brings mental well being as well as physical strength. Come walk with us every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-12pm.

Savvy Senior Computer Class: Learn to use a computer, access the Internet, and connect to family and friends through e-mail in a low-pressure environment. Class offerings include Computer Fundamentals, Intermediate Computer Skills, Introduction to the Internet, Introduction to Microsoft Office, E-Mail, and Computer Security. Senior Recreation Club: Meets the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Visitors are welcome. Seniors come together in a caring and supportive atmospheres for social, recreational and educational opportunities for age 55-up. Sessions include light refreshments, seminars, classes, field trips or special events.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Community Explosion: This annual event is designed to bring the family together in a fun and safe environment with fun games, activities, music, free food, free haircuts, free school supplies, and self improving workshops for the community. The Community Explosion will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Event festivities will begin at 10am. Youth Sports Expo Day: Sports build character, increase social interaction, and promote physical activity. Children are welcomed to have experience with each of the sports we offer. This event will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The cost is $1 per participant. Space is limited so register today!!! RENTAL INFORMATION

Rental space at the Albemarle Road Recreation Center is available for individuals, groups or businesses to utilize for special occasions or events. The center features meeting rooms of different sizes with various amenities and a gymnasium.

Some of the events held at the center's rental facilities include:
