CELEBRATING THE COMPLETION OF URBAN LITTLE SUGAR CREEK GREENWAY
Mecklenburg County residents can now walk, bike or jog on a paved path from CPCC to the Park Road Shopping Center. The entire urban section of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway is now finished! The public is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the trail which also hugs a newly-restored stream—reshaped, restored, revitalized for cleaner water and diverse aquatic life.

Online Voting Underway for Top Dog Finalists for Pedigree Bark in the Park Festival Presented by Food Lion
Dog lovers may cast votes online April 2 through April 16 for “Top Dog” of the
2012 Pedigree® Bark in the Park Dog Festival presented by Food Lion. Judges have chosen three finalists in the Park and Recreation Top Dog Photo Contest part. The finalist candidates/are:
Cooper (2-year old Boxer),
McGrady (5-year old Australian Shepherd), and
Nala (3-year old Blue Tick Walker mix). The winner will be announced April 23. These three finalist photos were chosen for cleverness, appearance and originality by a panel of judges from 45 entries. The contest is part of the Pedigree® Bark in the Park Dog Festival presented by Food Lion on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road, in Huntersville. The location has plenty of space and free parking. Admission is
FREE for dogs and people. Enter dog contests like Best Costume, Best Bark, Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Best Trick, Throw and Catch, and Disc Long-Shot Catch. Register for these events at the festival. Enjoy exhibits, dog products, prize drawings, musical entertainment and more. Great dogs to see and greet! All dogs must enter on a leash, please.

VETS PLAY FOR FREE AT PARK AND REC GOLF CLASSIC
All military veterans (including National Guard and Reserves) and active duty military personnel are invited to sign-up to play in the 7th annual Veterans & Reservists Golf Classic at Renaissance Park Golf Course, 1525 West Tyvola Charlotte North Carolina 28217, on June 28, 2012. This event features a FREE round of golf on a fine course plus FREE lunch provided by
Texas Land & Cattle Steak House for those who qualify to play. This event is presented by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and
Mecklenburg County Community Support Services - Veterans Services Division to show appreciation to men and women who serve and have served our country in the armed forces. This event begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The deadline to
register is June 15.
MECKTEENS AND NATURE PRESERVES PLANT SALE
On April 21, help support youth outdoor programs by purchasing plants from the
McDowell Nature Center at the Yorkmont Farmers Market, 1801 Yorkmont Road from, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Plants will be sold for $2 and include: Basil, Oregano, Parsley, Thyme, Cilantro, Rosemary, Bell Peppers, Jalapenos, Roma Tomatoes, Heirloom Tomatoes Cucumbers, Zucchini, Squash and Black Eyed Susan. You can also pre-order plants for pick up at the Nature Center. Pre-orders are due to

KINGS DRIVE ART WALK DEBUTS THIS SPRING ALONG LITTLE SUGAR CREEK GREENWAY
Festival in the Park, Charlotte’s ever popular event that transforms
Freedom Park into a visceral arts, crafts, food and entertainment festival every September since 1964, is continuing it springtime sibling event, the Kings Drive Art Walk. The second annual event will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29, 2012, at the recently constructed
Sugar Creek Greenway along Kings Drive near the Metropolitan in Midtown. The festival will again feature fine arts for sale in numerous mediums, including paint and drawing; sculpture; pottery; and metal, stone, wood and glass works, with one focus being local emerging artists. Admission to the festival will be free and open to the public. Artists interested in exhibiting or performing should contact the Festival’s executive director, Julie Whitney Austin, at 704-338-1060 or locate the Exhibitor Application on the Festival website at
