Mecklenburg County's Community Support Services Women's Commission Adult Services offers individual counseling and support groups to victims of domestic violence.

Educational programs for support persons of domestic violence victims (family, friends, neighbors, employees, etc.) are also offered. Community awareness efforts include conferences, training, workshops and special events for professionals and non-professionals.

Goals of the Program

  • Educate the victim about domestic violence and it's dynamics

  • Increase safety of the victim through safety planning and referrals

  • Enhance self-esteem and allow victim to verbalize their experience and express their feelings surrounding the abuse through individual and group counseling

  • Encourage the victim to identify and utilize their support network

  • Increase the victim's general understanding about domestic law information that may affect them in the future

  • Educate/train the public about domestic violence
