  • Park & Rec Accreditation - Park and Recreation has just been accredited by the national  Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies
  • Natural Connections - Get connected to NATURE  - it’s closer than you think
  • Holly Bend Property Ceremony - The public and media is invited to a special ceremony on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 3pm to celebrate the purchase of 211 acres in northern Mecklenburg County for watershed protection
  • Thanksgiving Dance - Food, music and games will be provided.  Admission is one canned good per child, to be donated to Salvation Army
  • Senior Silver Arts Workshop - For adults, ages 50 and better, to develop skills and discover talent in the arts. Program includes heritage, visual, literary and performing arts.
  • Swimming Classes and Water Aerobics - Learn-to-swim and water aerobics classes on Saturdays in the pool at West Charlotte High School
  • Childrens Memorial Walkway Veterans Day Service - Our Children's Memorial Walkway invites military personnel and interested citizens to attend a dedication service for a new Military Memorial Section honoring soldiers who have died serving our country.
  • Catawba Indian Programs at Reedy Creek - Learn about the Catawba's' rich culture and heritage. Explore their music, history, folklore, & pottery at Reedy Creek
  • West Branch Rocky River Greenway - Park and Recreation Department has secured $1.1 million in federal stimulus funding to begin a new greenway in Davidson. The grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will build the first phase of the new West Branch Rocky River Greenway
  • New Shuffletown Park Ammenities - New amenities offered at the new Shuffletown Park to serve community needs and encourage wider use by residents of Coulwood and other nearby neighborhoods

GIDDY UP! Pony rides, arena rides and horseback riding on trails in the 1,300 acre nature preserve are offered at Latta Equestrian Center in Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. Call 704-992-1550 to make a reservation. Be sure to check out all the great things to do in the nature preserve - visit the Nature CenterCarolina Raptor Center and Historic Latta Plantation. A fun family day trip - close to town but a world away!
