2008 Charlotte-Mecklenburg DV Related Homicides

The following listing captures the 11 domestic violence related homicides that occurred in Charlotte-Mecklenburg in 2008.

Content provided by the Charlotte Observer interactive map dated 1/1/09.

1.  Simrit Kaur Gill, 20  (February 1, 2008)

Gill's husband, Amandeep Brar, has been charged with her murder.

She chronicled painful decisions about her marriage in e-mails to her best friends. The last one, sent the day before she died, said she "had the talk" with Brar. She had asked him to move out and planned to tell her parents over the weekend she wanted a divorce. Arrest made.

2.  Atoi Watson, 23, (February 9, 2008) who lived on Brookhill Road, in Charlotte, was reported missing Sept. 14, 2007, when she didn't show up for work.

Police found her decomposed body in the woods at 3420 Queen City Drive behind an extended-stay motel near Charlotte's airport. A man who lived near where Watson's body was found was charged in her killing.

3.  Danasha Manec Sanders, 26, (May 9, 2008) was found shot to death about 10 a.m. at Boulevard Homes, near the West Boulevard-Billy Graham Parkway intersection. Sanders' youngest child was in the apartment at the time and was turned over to the county Department of Social Services, authorities said. Cleared by exception.

4.  Renata Elizabeth Chronis, 69
(August 9, 2008)

Police say evidence indicates that John Chronis, 68, shot his wife, Renata, 69, then turned the handgun on himself.  Family members coming over for dinner found the couple on the floor of their home on Acorn Creek Lane and called 911 just after 7 p.m.

Officers recovered a handgun beneath John Chronis' body. It was the first time police officers had been to the house and police said officers didn't immediately know of a restraining order or other signs of trouble between the couple.

They had lived at the house in northeast Charlotte for about a year after moving from another state.

5.  Shirley Ann Miller, 46
(September 2, 2008)

Police said they believe Shirley Miller's death was domestic-related. A man who also lived at the house, whom police identified as Anthony Hamilton, was taken to a Huntersville hospital. He was later charged in Miller's murder.

Officers were responding to an alarm at the home at 4727 Pimilico Trace Lane shortly after 5 p.m. Once there, they had to force their way inside the home.

Officers found Hamilton alive, but said he was unresponsive. They then discovered Miller's body in a bedroom at the home. Miller, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene.

6.  Cindy Loretta Williams, 49  (September 12, 2008) was reported missing by her daughter on Aug. 10, 2008. The daughter said her mother was last seen leaving her residence at 5214 Clearmont Ave. on Aug. 4.

A witness said he recalled hearing an argument and gunshots coming from inside Williams' home on Aug. 4.  The witness advised that he went to the apartment to check on Williams; however, a man who was later charged with Williams' murder answered the door and said everything was fine.

On Sept. 12, detectives served an arrest warrant for Alan Simpson on charges relating to the fraudulent use of Williams' food stamps.  Simpson was interviewed by homicide detectives at police headquarters and later charged with Williams' murder.

Williams' body was located on Girard Court, a short distance from the house the couple shared at 5214 Clearmont Ave.

7.  Viola Nelson Holland, 73  (September 20, 2008) was killed Sept. 20.  A 77-year-old man was charged with her killing.

8.  Roschelle Woyee, 19 (December 4, 2008)

Daniel Jaworski, 20, was charged with murdering Roschelle Woyee, 19, the mother of his 1-year-old child. Court records and witnesses describe his jealousy, constant phone calls, unannounced visits and violence, including abuse during and after Woyee's pregnancy.

9.  Elizabeth Michelle Elder, 38  (December 11, 2008) was killed in what police called a domestic violence-related homicide. When officers arrived at 4655 Old Lantern Way, they were met by Richard Daniel Wilson. Elizabeth Elder was found inside the living room suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilson was arrested on scene and transported to police headquarters for questioning.  He was later arrested. Elder and Wilson were boyfriend and girlfriend.

10.  Gabrielle Kinard, 38 (December 13, 2008)

11.  Anjelo Kinard, 18  (December 15, 2008)
