ORGANIZATION ORIENTATION

AUTHORIZATION - HISTORY 1949 - Present

A joint proclamation of the Charlotte City Council and Mecklenburg County Commission, issued  in June 1949, established the Veterans Service Office and agreed to jointly fund the operations.  This merger was a forerunner of City and County government consolidation. June 15,1999, marked the 50th year that Charlotte-Mecklenburg military veterans or  their survivors have utilized the Veterans Service Office for essential and quality assistance in  seeking veterans/survivors benefits.

The Veterans Service Office operations are in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes, Chapter 822; Subparagraph 153-149 (34); 1973 Session Laws. The Office serves as the claimant's federally accredited representative under the provision of  Section 3402 (b) 2, Title 38, Code of Federal Regulations (veterans benefits); for the preparation, presentation and prosecution of claims under laws relating to veterans benefits.
