Mandatory Water Restrictions Hydrant Update September 2008(Since Nov. 5 2007, companies with permitted hydrant access may not use Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities' water outside its service area until further notice.)

Water use suggestions for:

Landscaping or Irrigation businesses

Office buildings

Laundry facilities

Hospital or Medical facilities

Food Service operations

Dormitories

How Are Industrial and Commercial Customers Helping?

*  Some industries re-engineered their process to cut water use.

*  Several have completed comprehensive audits of their water use and found significant ways to reduce consumption.  Some created a company goal to reduce water use by more than 10% and monitored its progress. 

*  Restaurants have added table-top cards alerting customers that the restaurant is conserving water by not serving it unless requested.

*  A company gave their staff water conservation kits. 

A local college installed low-flow showerheads in dorms and athletic facilities.

A hotel is asking guests to use their linens for an extra day before laundering.

A home builder is offering buyers the option to delay installing new lawns until after the drought.
