When Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant was constructed in 1927, the plant was located in 'the country' -- many miles from the center of town. More than 80 years later, the plant is located in the middle of SouthPark, a thriving business and shopping district in south Charlotte with large residential neighborhoods. As the area has grown, so has a plant that's used more sophisticated technology and increased daily treatment capacity to 20 million gallons.
In 1999, the plant completed a highly successful, $6.5 million odor control project with help and participation from the surrounding community. Since that time, the number of odor complaints has dropped significantly. |

Plant construction update At each of our five wastewater treatment plants, State-certified wastewater treatment plant operators work 24 hours a day, 365 days per year -- constantly sampling, measuring and testing the wastewater to ensure its safety. |
