Lee S. Dukes Jr. (North Mecklenburg) Water Treatment Plant
|
The newest Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities facility is the Lee S. Dukes Jr. (formerly called North Mecklenburg) Water Treatment Plant in Huntersville, NC. Water from Lake Norman is gravity-fed to this treatment plant, which was opened in 1998.
Growing water demand in this part of Mecklenburg County required the construction of this plant, which was built to allow for future expansion. Eventually this plant will be able to produce up to 108 million gallons of water per day, almost six times the plant's original treatment capacity. To minimize future expansion costs, builders constructed the entire office space area of the plant as part of the original project.
