McDowell Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
|
Since McDowell Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant's opening in 1980, the plant has seen many changes. It has been upgraded twice to expand the plant's treatment capacity as demand has increased in the areas north of Charlotte. Recent upgrades increased McDowell's treatment capacity up to 12 million gallons per day.
Because McDowell discharges into a waterway that has been identified as nutrient-sensitive, the plant uses biological nutrient removal as part of its treatment process. This advanced treatment technique includes removal of nitrogen and phosphorous from drinking water.

At each of our five wastewater treatment plants, State-certified wastewater treatment plant operators work 24 hours a day, 365 days per year -- constantly sampling, measuring and testing the wastewater to ensure its safety.
