Operating and Support Divisions Overview

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities employs roughly a staff of 786 in six major operating divisions or in smaller supporting divisions. Each team works to ensure water is delivered to your home without interruption and that wastewater is collected, treated and safely discharged back into streams and creeks.
Divisions are involved with all steps -- from constructing pipelines to approving new connections -- to make sure that more than 700,000 customers have safe, clean water.

- Water Supply and Treatment - provides for treatment of an annual daily average of 101 million gallons of drinking water from three plants; also includes backflow prevention program.

- Environmental Management (Wastewater Treatment)- provides for the high-level treatment of more than 86.7 million gallons of wastewater per day at five plants; also includes industrial sewage pre-treatment monitoring and oil & grease prevention programs. Contact: Any one of our five plants.
- Engineering - provides planning, design and contract administration of water and sewer projects to ensure system infrastructure and capacity; also administers new requests for water and sewer taps.

- Field Operations - maintains more than 7,700 miles of water and wastewater pipes and more than 240,000 service connections. Contact: 311 or 704-336-7600 for water and wastewater emergencies.
- Administration - coordinates leadership with management team and operating divisions to handle the day-to-day business functions of Utilities.
