When installing an irrigation system, residential customers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg are required to install and maintain a backflow prevention assembly on their water line to ensure the safety of the surrounding community.
Residential customers who are planning to install a backflow prevention assembly for their irrigation system must either be a licensed plumber in North Carolina or must obtain approval from Mecklenburg County. A plumbing permit is required for the backflow installation.
Contact Backflow Prevention by email or call 704/399-2426 to find out what type of assembly your project will require. For detail installation criteria, please refer to our Industrial & Commercial Page.
The backflow prevention assembly must be tested by a Utilities-approved and certified tester upon installation and annually thereafter.
