Reedy / McKee Creeks Interceptor -- Facts at a Glance

Description Proposed new sanitary sewer line to bring public sewer to the area within Mecklenburg County and along Reedy Creek, McKee Creek, and the land draining to these two creeks.
Service Area Reedy Creek and McKee Creek basin (see outline on map) 14,000 acres (22 Square miles)
Existing Systems Private Utility Service by Carolina Water Service and Heater Utilities Inc. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities service in upper western portion of basin
Preliminary Design Completed in February 2001 Included an evaluation of land use patterns, environmental issues, and alternative alignments. The result of the preliminary design was the preferred route being considered for final design.
Final Design Spring 2001 – 2005.
This project is in the environmental assessment phase.
Construction Start in 2009 and completed in 2010 Pipeline construction typically involves use of backhoes and trackhoes digging a trench within construction easements, placing the pipe in the trench, and then restoring the impacted area as the project progresses.
