West Water Main

The West Water Main will connect the Southwest Transmission Main (under construction) to the existing South (Park Road) Transmission Main to provide an adequate supply of water to the South and Western parts of Mecklenburg County

Crews will install 64-inch water pipe between late 2007 and Summer 2009. Click here to view a map of the area.

The project is divided into two phases:

Phase 1:  Connect to Southwest Main just east of Billy Graham Parkway and proceed eastward using Golf Acres Drive, Morris Field Drive (utilizing a small portion of 64” main already constructed and plugged – coordinated with CDOT road widening project), Plato Circle, then cross-country, crossing Old Steele Creek Road, Carolina Golf Club, then Donald Ross Road and extending to end of Parker Drive dedicated right-of-way next to a Duke Power right-of-way.

Phase 2 (to be constructed contiguously with Phase 1):  From end of Phase 1 route, follows Duke Power right-of-way southeast into Watson Drive, then turning south within the southbound lanes of Remount Road, crossing through the West Boulevard intersection and continuing down the median of Remount.  The alignment will then move outside of Remount at Revolution Park, cross Irwin Creek, then cross Remount into a wooded area adjacent to Revolution Golf Course (Mecklenburg County Park & Rec) along the southbound I-77 access ramp.  Near the bottom of the access ramp, a tunnel will cross I-77 and continue to near the Toomey Ave./Remount Rd. intersection.  The water main will then cross Remount Rd. again and proceed along the northeast side of Remount Rd. before re-entering Remount and reaching the South Main tie-in point in Remount, just prior to the intersection of So. Tryon St.
