The Southwest Water Main Project
|
 |
The Southwest Water Main project is an important part of Charlotte's plan to improve the water distribution system countywide. It is one of several large water mains being built by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities, the City of Charlotte (NC) department responsible for providing water and wastewater services to more than 750,000 customers in Mecklenburg County.
The first phase (A) from the water treatment plant on Brookshire Boulevard to the airport is complete.
The second phase (B1 & B2) of the Southwest Water Main starts on Airport Drive and goes south to the proposed West Boulevard.
Phase C will go from Shopton Road down Steele Creek Road ending at York Road.

Phase B This phase of Southwest Water Main will travel west along the roadway and then follow the proposed path for the new portion of West Boulevard (south of Byrum Drive). The project will continue through the proposed West Boulevard and travels south on Steele Creek Road. The water main will connect to existing water pipes just north of Shopton Road near I-485. At a later date, a third phase of this project will extend pipe between I-485 and South Tryon Street toward Lake Wylie.
The first part (phase B1) began Fall 2007 on Airport Drive. That phase will continue south to Steele Creek Road and be completed soon.
Phase B2 construction started October 2008 and should be completed around Fall 2009. Newsletter (January 2009) Public Meeting Presentation (Oct 2008) Newsletter (June 2007)
