General Information:
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities started construction on a new sewer pipeline along McAlpine Creek from the McAlpine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant to Lawyers Road. This project will enhance system performance, provide increased sewer capacity for present and future needs, and protect the water quality in McAlpine Creek. Map available in pdf format.
Phase 1 is under construction. Phase 1 of the sewer pipe is being installed along McAlpine Creek from Rushmore Drive (south of I-485) to just north of Highway 51 (Pineville-Matthews Road). The sewer pipe will be 78-inches in diameter at I-485 and 72-inches in diameter at Highway 51.
Phases 2 - 4 will be designed and installed afterwards. Check this web page for updates on maps, schedule and public meetings. You can also click on 'Notify Me' at the top right corner to receive an email when this page is updated.

Design: The most visible activity during this phase of the work will be field surveying. Activities may involve some minor clearing in areas along the creek to survey the centerline and collect other data necessary for design activities.
As the project design progresses, geotechnical work, including soils borings, will be performed at approximately 1,000 foot intervals to determine construction conditions
Construction: The most significant impacts of the project will occur during the construction phase. It is anticipated that multiple contractors will be working along various portions of the project simultaneously. The construction will have the most impact on residents who live on the same side of the creek on which the new relief sewer will be constructed, and citizens who use the greenway parks. There should be minimal impact on traffic and existing utilities.
As the construction phase nears, additional information will be supplied regarding the specific impacts that might be anticipated.
