The Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) is creating an inventory of possible projects to be funded through a new Pedestrian and Bicycle Neighborhood Connectivity Program. This program was developed to provide funding for low-cost improvements that provide connections within and between neighborhoods. These are connections that will help improve access and safety for neighborhood residents, but that are not normally funded through the Bicycle and/or Sidewalk Construction Programs.

In January 2007, CDOT facilitated a public involvement process to learn which neighborhood pedestrian and bicycle connections were of interest to Charlotte's residents. This was the first step in creating the inventory list that would be funded through the Pedestrian and Bicycle Neighborhood Connectivity Program.

CDOT received many excellent suggestions during this process, though many ideas were for stand-alone sidewalk or bicycle projects and are not considered neighborhood connections. These projects will be forwarded to other transportation or neighborhood improvement programs for review.

The projects identified in the map below are the first step in the process of building new neighborhood connections. The list will continue to change as projects are funded and added. We'd like your input on any connectivity project of interest to you. Click here to give us your feedback or to recommend another specific neighborhood connection.
