Q: What is a Pedestrian Master Plan?
A: Currently, Charlotte has a program to construct sidewalks, but does not have a comprehensive document to serve as a master plan for pedestrian accommodations. Though the Pedestrian Master Plan will be a stand alone document, it will be consistent with the City's Transportation Action Plan.
Q: What are the goals of the Plan?
A: Having a Pedestrian Master Plan will provide guidance on best practices, priorities and opportunities. It will outline implementation strategies to enhance the pedestrian transportation system, and provide public awareness and outreach.
Q: When will the plan be completed?
A: Early 2008. We are now in the beginning stages of creating the Plan where we want to gather public input and assess current facilities, practices and opportunities.
Q: How will the completed Plan be used?
A: It will provide a framework for City staff, developers, officials and the general public. The City will address the coordination of all agencies involved in the planning and design of pedestrian facilities and those involved in public outreach and awareness of pedestrian needs. Coordination between these agencies is critical to the success of Charlotte's first Pedestrian Master Plan.
