General Tax Bill Questions and Answers

Q. How much is due on my bill?
A.
 Access your real estate or personal property bill (excluding registered motor vehicle bills) online at Tax Bill Lookup.

Q. How long is the balance due amount on my tax bill good for?
A. Once delinquent, interest is applied at the beginning of every month.

Q. I have a tax bill showing "not paid" and a Bank Statement showing the check cleared. What should I do?
A.
We would be glad to research this for you. Please mail our office a copy of the front and back of the cancelled check along with a written statement as to the issue so we can research the payment. Q. I am a new resident of North Carolina. I need to register my vehicles. How do I do that?
A. The first step is to contact the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Approximately four months after your vehicle has been registered with the DMV, you will receive a bill from us for the property taxes due.

Q. When are property tax rates set?
A. The County Commissioners and Municipal Boards set the tax rate at the end of June each year.
