Edgewater / Rosecrest Storm Drainage Improvement Project
The Edgewater/Rosecrest Storm Drainage Improvement Project will reduce flooding of streets and structures by improving culverts, pipe systems, and stream channels. Stream banks will be stabilized to minimize erosion through improvements to the channel shape and through the use of selected plantings.
Objectives:
- Reduce flooding of South Boulevard and nearby residential streets and structures by upgrading underground pipe systems and roadway culverts.
- Reduce flooding and minimize erosion along the receiving stream by improving the channel cross-section and alignment.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS) has completed its review of the planning report prepared by our consultant. The study found that some pipes and culverts on the primary drainage system, and some secondary pipes and inlets do not meet the City's current design standards. Soil erosion problems were noted at several locations as well. However, the system deficiencies and soil erosion problems are not as severe as they are at other locations within the city, and the study concludes that the need for immediate system repairs is not critical. CMSWS has concluded that drainage improvements needed in the Edgewater/Rosecrest study area should be addressed within Storm Water Service's Capital Improvement Program. This program ranks projects based on severity of flooding and potential for public safety impacts. Neighborhoods with severe and dangerous flooding are addressed first. At this time, we have identified more than 90 projects that will take over 10 years to resolve. In order to determine the Edgewater / Rosecrest Storm Drainage Improvement project schedule, Storm Water will compare the Edgewater / Rosecrest area needs with other project areas and annual funding levels. Updates will be posted on the website and the neighborhood will be notified when this project is selected to move forward.
