Clean Streams is a program for turf professionals and property owners in Mecklenburg County who wish to protect local water quality. 

 When it rains, excess nutrients (fertilizers) and chemicals are carried from lawns and recreation areas directly to storm drains.  In Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, all storm drains are piped directly to creeks and lakes such as our drinking water reservoir, Mountain Island Lake.  The careful application of fertilizers and pesticides is critical to protecting the quality of our surface waters.

Cleans Streams is a program created locally by NC Cooperative Extension Service and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services.
