In recent years, new construction of homes and businesses along or near the lakes has flourished.
Even Charlotte-Mecklenburg residents who don't live on a lake or enjoy time on the water still are impacted by our lakes. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities pumps an average of 100 million gallons of water from Mountain Island Lake and Lake Norman daily to serve the Charlotte area. The water is treated, then piped into homes and businesses as drinking water.
