STEP #5
PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK for helping to protect and improve the water quality of our streams and lakes.

WHY ADOPT-A-STREAM?
By adopting a section of stream you are improving one of Charlotte-Mecklenburg's greatest natural resources – our creeks and streams.

Every day pollutants such as trash, used oil, pesticides/fertilizer, yard waste (leaves, grass clipppings) reach our urban streams.  Some pollutants are easily detected and eliminated, however; there are others that are hard to detect through standard monthly monitoring.

With over 2000 miles of streams, volunteers are needed to assist in locating and reporting water pollution problems.  One of the best ways to find problems is to get into the stream and walk the channel!

I'M READY TO GET STARTED!
Contact the Mecklenburg County Water Quality Program at (704) 336-5500.  Staff will assist you in locating an acceptable section of stream for you to adopt.

Staff are also available to provide your group with a presentation on the Adopt-A-Stream program and tips on conducting a safe and enjoyable stream cleanup.
