City of Charlotte Maintenance Team This team continues to make remedial repairs of private property drainage systems. In 1999, they completed the 1,000th repair and in 2001, the original backlog of high priority complaints was completed -- two years ahead of schedule. Mecklenburg County Storm Water Operations From inspecting and removing large blockages in named creeks to maintaining public rain gardens, this staff keeps our creeks flowing and protects the natural functions of our floodplains. Mecklenburg County Flood Mitigation This department works to reduce the potential for loss of life and property due to flooding, including floodplain mapping, and flood safety education, and processes floodplain development permits. City of Charlotte Water Quality
This team is responsible for satisfying the City's National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit, providing educational efforts to protect and improve surface waters, overseeing special water quality Best Management Practice (BMP) and watershed projects, obtaining Federal and State water quality permits for all of Storm Water Services' projects and implementing the City's pond program. Mecklenburg County Water Quality Maintaining and restoring the quality and usability of Mecklenburg County's surface water—that's the goal of the County Water Quality program. We protect more than 190-miles of shoreline on three lakes and 3,000 miles of streams. County Water Quality staff works to identify and eliminate pollution sources, enforce environmental regulations, and to develop and implement watershed management plans.
