If you live in a multifamily complex with dumpster or compactor service, the City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services provides garbage, recyclables, and bulky item collection for you.  Your collection services differ from those offered to single-family residents.  

How does my garbage service differ?
The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services collects garbage from dumpsters or compactors for multifamily complexes within the city limits.  Garbage is collected at least once per week.  Collection days vary for each multifamily complex.  To find out your collection day, please contact your property manager.

Is recycling service offered for multifamily complexes with dumpers or compactors?
YES!  Recycling services are available to complexes that qualify for garbage collection service; however, the service is optional.  For complexes that offer this service, recycling stations are located near the dumpster or compactor. To find out more about recycling in your community or request recycling stations be added to your property, please contact your property manager.

What materials are accepted at the recycling stations?

Recyclables collected at the stations include:

• Glass (all three colors)
• Aluminum
• Steel cans
• Plastics 1 and 2 Note: To determine if a plastic is eligible for recycling, check the bottom or side of the plastic.  Look for a triangle formed by three arrows.  If the number inside the arrow is a 1 or 2 the plastic is recyclable at the station.
• Newspapers
• Magazines
• Catalogs
• Junk mail

How do residents in multifamily complexes with dumpsters or compactors dispose of yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, etc.)?
The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services does not provide yard waste collection service for multifamily complexes with dumpsters or compactors.  Please contact your property manager for more information on collection of yard waste.

How do I dispose of bulky items if I live in a multifamily complex with dumpsters or compactors?
Bulky item collection is available for residents living in multifamily complexes with dumpsters or compactors. To schedule a bulky item collection, call 311.   Please have the following information available when you call:

• Name
• Property's Address
• Multi-family property name
• Items to be collected

When your collection has been confirmed, please place them near the dumpster or compactor in a way that does not obstruct garbage collection.

Items placed in front of or behind the dumpster or compactor will not be collected.
