BACKGROUND:      
Hurricane Katrina showed us just how powerful and destructive Mother Nature can be, but did you also know that she has a softer side? 

On Thursday, October 13, 2005, the children of Cultural Heritage will help the City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services kick-off part two of its Meta Un G-O-O-O-L Reciclando campaign with the live debut of A Recycle Tale. Written and produced by the children of Cultural Heritage, a children's outreach program of the Latin American Coalition, the play tells the story of how Mother Nature found love with the help of a few environmentally conscious friends.

Cultural Heritage is one of several organizations that Solid Waste Services has partnered with as a part of its Meta Un G-O-O-O-L Reciclando campaign.  Launched in the fall of 2004, the campaign is designed to increase recycling participation in Charlotte's Latino community.  Efforts for the 2005 campaign resulted in a 12% increase in recycling participation in the targeted community. Solid Waste Services' recycling promotion efforts in the Latino community will continue through 2006, and will build on the success of the previous year by maintaining established partnerships and building new relationships to increase participation in, and awareness of, recycling.

Capture footage of children performing A Recycle Tale.  Find out what's in store for 2006 and talk with representatives from partner organizations.  Children will also be able to participate in recycling education games, including Follow That Bottle, which explains the process that recyclables go through to become new materials.
