Smiling Faces Bring Good News

Solid Waste Services notifies over 28,000 homes of day changes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, June 12, 2006(Charlotte, NC) – This week  residents living in 28,000 Charlotte homes will open their mailboxes to find adorable little faces bringing them information about upcoming changes to their garbage, recyclables,  yard waste and bulky item collection day. The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services is changing collection days for 28,000 homes in parts of south, southeast and southwest Charlotte.   The changes are being made to accommodate growth in the Charlotte area.  Solid Waste Services is mailing postcards to residents affected by the changes today.

"Changing the collection routes for this area will have a positive impact on service efficiency," said Solid Waste Services Key Business Executive Wayman J. Pearson.  "As the Charlotte area grew so did the collection routes.  Increasing the number of units on a route can impede our ability to collect on the scheduled collection day, and in some cases this was happening.  The route adjustments will rebalance the routes, ensuring that customers receive service on the scheduled collection day."

Some streets included in the day change: Park South Drive, Quail Hollow Road, Arrowood Road, Westinghouse Boulevard, Park Road, Selwyn Avenue, Kings Drive and Sharon Lane.  Other streets in the area will also receive day changes.  Residents can confirm their collection day by logging on to http://curbit.charmeck.org.  Click the day change icon from the home page, then Address information Center.

Note: The postcard (attached) is what residents will receive in the mail.  Residents receiving a day change to Tuesday will receive collection service on Tuesday, July 4.  Solid Waste Services crews will work on Tuesday, July 4.
