March 2, 2009 – (Charlotte, NC) Due to the closure of Mecklenburg County's contracted landfill facility, City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services was not able to provide collection services today. Garbage, recyclable and bulky item collection will resume tomorrow, March 3. Yard waste collection is suspended for the rest of the week to help ensure garbage and recyclable collection for the entire City.
Residents are asked to place garbage, recyclables and bulky items curbside according to the regular schedule and leave them until they are collected. Progress will be monitored as we work to get back on schedule and service updates will be provided throughout in the week.
To ensure collection, residents are asked to:
· Place collection materials curbside by 6:30 am on collection day
· Bag all garbage before placing it in the rollout cart
· Rinse out and remove lids from recyclable containers before placing them in the bin
· Call 311 to schedule bulky item collection
· Allow 3 feet between the rollout cart, recycling bins, bulky items and other obstacles
For up-to-the minute information on the CURB IT! collection schedule, residents are advised to call 311, check local media listings, The Government Channel (Channel 16) and the Solid Waste Services website at http://curbit.charmeck.org.
