The large blue plastic bin by your desk may look like an oversized trash can, but make sure you reserve it for the kind of paper that can be recycled. Your blue recycling bin is an important part of PaperChase, Mecklenburg County's paper recycling program. All County and City employees are encouraged to participate.
What should you put in the blue bin?
- box board and flattened cardboard
- white and colored paper
- computer, copy and fax paper
- legal pads, stapled paper, file folders, envelopes, reports,
sticky notes, index and business cards
- brochures, catalogs, newspapers, magazines, phone books,
blueprints, stationery, letterhead and junk mail
What you should NOT put in the bin?
- pencil shavings
- rubber bands, napkins, paper towels, and tissues
- hardbound books
- paper cups, paper plates, wax paper
- waxed cardboard, heavily glued paper
- candy or gum wrappers, food or chewing gum
- pizza or food boxes, plastic bags or Styrofoam
We all know that recycling is good for the environment, but did you also know that recycling is the law in Mecklenburg County? Mecklenburg County has a Recycling Ordinance that requires many businesses, schools and government facilities to recycle cardboard and paper. Do your part by participating in the PaperChase Recycling Program!
