The Planning Department has formed a Stakeholder Group to discuss maximum height regulations in residential zoning districts. The purpose of the stakeholder group will be to review and update the existing height regulations for buildings in residential districts, especially focusing on the relationship between taller buildings and smaller, typically single family residential structures located in residential zoned districts. We will be exploring possible changes to the regulations that would protect adjacent residential uses while also providing flexibility for different types of development. The Height in Residential District Stakeholders Group meeting will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 East Fourth Street, 2nd Floor. The main entrance of the Government Center closes at 6:00 p.m. If you arrive after 6 p.m., please use the basement entrance on Davidson Street and check in with the security guard. Please bring your parking pass with you for validation.
This meeting will be an educational meeting to help members better understand some of the zoning and planning terms that have been discussed in our group sessions. In this session, our goal is to provide definitions along with graphics to help stakeholders understand the height issue while also providing opportunities to compare different heights in the area.
