PLAY OF 12 YEAR OLD PLAYWRIGHT TAKES STAGE NOV. 15, PRODUCED BY DRAMA CLUB AT TUCKASEEGEE REC CENTER

Charlotte, NC--  A 12 year old playwright in Charlotte, Najla Work, turns to America to make her dream come true. Najla, an actress and director, has written her first play, “The Dancer,” a dance showcase which debuts November 15, 2008 at 5:30pm at Crossroads Charter High School, 5500 North Tryon Street.

“The Dancer” is the story of a young girl with a passion to dance, who wants to take dance lessons.  However, her mother is a single parent and cannot afford the lessons. So what does a child in today’s world do to make her dreams come true?

The event is produced by JBU Kids Productions, a drama club that meets regularly on Saturdays and Sundays at Tuckaseegee Recreation Center in West Charlotte.  The recreation center is run by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department..

Najla is a student at Coulwood Middle School in Charlotte. Her dream and goal is to become a playwright, win an Oscar, and form her own production company. Najla is vice president of JBU Kids Productions. She is also the daughter of Sonia Lemon, a Recreation Assistant for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation.

Najla was inspired to write this play to show herself and peers “that their dreams can come true—now!” Having a passion to entertain, Najla’s goal, along with JBU Kids Productions, is to develop a “theatre district just for youth.” Being community oriented, Najla and JBU Kids Production will donate a portion of the funds from this production to Crossroads Charter High School’s performing arts and lunch program.

Najla is reaching out to the community, asking citizens to buy tickets so children from group homes, shelters, the mentally/physically challenged and her friends can see this play.  The play shows youth how to hold onto their dreams and with hard work, anything can happen.
