Revolution Regional Center Workshop
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department invites all interested citizens to the second of three community workshops on the $10-million Revolution Regional Center. This workshop will be held October 24 at 6:30pm by the parks department’s District 1 Advisory Council at the Arbor Glen Outreach Center, 1520 Clanton Road.
This center might include facilities such as a junior golf training center, a boxing and wrestling academy, indoor track, indoor climbing wall, computer training center, a minority golf hall of fame, and/or a new golf clubhouse. Some facilities and programs may be operated in partnership with the First Tee Golf Academy, Police Athletic League and/or Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Design consultants will present alternate site plans on how to develop this recreation center as a new concept “sports and learning academy” to serve the greater Charlotte metropolitan area. The preliminary plans are expected to address:
- The approximate size and suggested location of the center
- Possible impact on Revolution golf course (which may require reconfiguration of certain holes and parking)
- Recommendations on which facilities and programs should be included in the center
The consultants are expected to recommend that this center should not include a full size swimming pool, but it may include some type of aquatic feature. They will outline reasons for this recommendation.
Citizens will be invited to comment on all elements of the alternate plans. These comments will provide additional information for planners to consider in developing a final plan to be presented at a third community workshop November 28, 2005
