Charlotte, NC— There is no time like the present for youngsters to learn to swim! The American Red Cross and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation offer learn-to-swim lessons this summer at Ray’s Splash Planet, 215 North Sycamore Street. Instructors are certified by the American Red Cross. Each course includes training in basic water safety and helping others in an emergency. Courses have one instructor/6 students:
Sandollar/Starfish (ages 3-5)
Pre-beginner level swim lessons. No water experience required. Basic orientation to aquatic environment. Elementary skills such as front and back float, glide and submersion. Students learn flutter kick, begin using arms and are introduced to swimming with independent instruction
Monday-Thursday (four nights a week for two weeks), 5:45pm-6:15pm

- Session II July 14–24
- Session III Aug 4-14 Cost for full weeknight session is $64.
Saturday Session, May 10-June 7, 9am-9:30am (each Saturday except Memorial Day weekend) Cost for full Saturday course is $32.
Otter/Walrus (ages 6-12)
No water experience required. Students are introduced to aquatic environment, learn front glide, flutter kick, back glide, paddle stroke and rotary breathing. Progress toward the front crawl. Youth (6 - 12 years)
Monday-Thursday (four nights a week for two weeks), 5pm-5:45pm
