PARK AND RECREATION OUTDOOR POOLS STILL $1 THIS YEAR; FREE SWIMMING LESSONS ON MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS
May 14, 2008

Charlotte, NC--  Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation opens its outdoor pools for the 2008 summertime season beginning Memorial Day Weekend with a low admission fee of only $1-a-day again this year.  For Memorial Day weekend, the pools will be open:

  • Saturday, May 24:   11am-5pm
  • Sunday, May 25:     1pm-5pm
  • Monday, May 26:    12noon -6pm

Pools will operate Saturdays and Sundays only on that schedule until after June 13 when school lets out.  From then on, regular summertime operating hours will be:

  • Saturdays:   11am-5pm
  • Sundays:     1pm-5pm
  • Weekdays:  12noon-6pm

This schedule applies at Cordelia Park Pool, 2100 North Davidson Street and Double Oaks Pool, 1200 Newland Road. Pools will close for the year after Labor Day, September 1.  Groups interested in reserving time at pools should contact Matt Jakubowski at 704-336-7855.

Again this year Park and Recreation outdoor pools offer free swim lessons beginning June 16 to youngsters on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11am-11:30am and 11:30am -12pm at both pools.  Class size is limited to maintain a ratio of one instructor for six students. The 11am classes give priority to children ages 3-5.  The 11:30am classes give priority to youngsters ages 6-12.  Older children will be allowed if space is available. To register for swimming lessons call 704 336-7855 at least a week ahead of time.

Last year Park and Recreation’s outdoor pools had more than 24,000 paid admissions. Attendance has doubled since 2004.  In 2005 we dropped the admission charge to $1-a-day for everyone, and revenues are now more than they were in 2004!
