COOL-OFF ON HOT DAYS AT PARK AND REC OUTDOOR POOLS;POOLS OPEN MAY 23; FREE SWIM LESSONS AGAIN THIS YEAR!

Charlotte, NC --  Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department’s outdoor swimming pools open for the summer season on Saturday, May 23--just in time for Memorial Day Weekend!  ALL admissions remain at only $1 for all day, to help families cope with a rough economy!

Pools will be open every weekend through Labor Day, Sept. 7.  Pools will be open on weekdays, after school closes, June 11-August 24. Park and Recreation’s outdoor pools are:

  • Cordelia Pool, 2100 N. Davidson St., 704-336-2096
  • Double Oaks Pool, 1200 Newland Rd., 704-336-2653

Regular operating hours for swimming will be Saturdays 11-5pm, Sundays 1-5pm, Monday–Friday 12noon-6pm.  Last year these two Park and Rec swimming pools had 25,049 paid admissions.

FREE SWIM LESSONS FOR CHILDREN AGAIN THIS YEAR!

Park and Recreation’s outdoor pools will also offer FREE swimming lessons for youngsters with sessions for ages 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 at:

  • Cordelia Pool:  Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30am-11am or 11:15am-11:45am
  • Double Oaks Pool:  Mondays and Wednesdays 9am-9:45am, 10:am-10:45am, or 11am-11:45am; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:am-9:45am; and Fridays, 9am-9:45am, 10am-10:45am,  or 11am-11:45am.

Registrations for lessons will be accepted, beginning on June 17, at the pool you wish to attend.  Registrations will be taken every Wednesday, 12-6pm, for the following week only.  Registration is week-by-week and must be done in person. No phone reservations will be taken. All reservations are first come, first served. Spots are limited. There will be one instructor per six students.

Last year, Park and Recreation provided 2,300 FREE swim leassons for youngsters. For more information on aquatics programs, call 311 or 704-336-DIVE
