Park and Recreation Invites You to Memorial Stadium for Family Fun Fest and to Watch July 4th Fireworks
June 30, 2008

Charlotte, NC—Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation invites you to Memorial Stadium, 310 North Kings Drive, to watch the “Red, White and Boom!” fireworks spectacle Friday evening, July 4, 2008. Admission to the stadium is FREE. Gates open at 6pm for fun games and activities.

Parking is available for $5 in stadium lots 6, 7, and 8 along East 7th Street. Fireworks start at dark, approximately 9:30pm. Bring a blanket and folding chair and watch from the grass field, or sit in the grandstands. Activities include Moon Bounce (inflatables for children), watermelon eating contest, tug-of-war, sack races, human foosball plus several more. The stadium event is called Family Fun Fest, sponsored by US Airways. Food and drink concessions will be available. No alcoholic events or coolers allowed in the stadium.

The fireworks will be staged from the campus of Central Piedmont Community College. Some streets around campus will close soon after 7pm to accommodate the fallout zone, so traffic in the area will probably be heavy. Streets will reopen after the fireworks show which will last about 20 minutes and be staged to music played at the stadium and on five Clear Channel Radio stations.

US Airways will also sponsor a food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Canned food will be collected at the stadium. Participants, age 18 or older, may register to win a FREE round-trip ticket to anywhere in the continental United States, courtesy of US Airways.

Red, White and Boom! is organized by Center City Partners which partners with Park and Recreation for use of Memorial Stadium.
