Tee Off with the First Tee of Charlotte and Park and Rec: A Junior Program to Learn and Practice Golf this Summer
July 2, 2008

Charlotte, NC –  Youngsters interested in learning about golf are offered an extraordinary opportunity this summer. The First Tee of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation present a package of lessons, activities, and practice opportunities for a package price of $35 per participant. Scholarships are available for those unable to pay the fee. The program will operate four days a week, July 28–August 22, 2008, 9am-1pm, at four Park and Recreation golf courses.

This program is open to youth, ages 5-18. It is meant to introduce them to golf, especially those who otherwise might not get to play the game! No experience is necessary, and the one-time charge covers all equipment, materials, balls, and exposure to four golf courses, plus a meal for participants on days they attend. Transportation to golf courses is also included.

Activities will stress The First Tee's nine core values:  honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, judgment, perseverance, courtesy, confidence, respect and responsibility. Participants must attend at least one day a week and are encouraged to attend as many days as possible. The program includes field trips to off-site locations, with transportation.

Those wishing to register may do so online at www.thefirstteecharlotte.org or come to registration sessions on Thursday evenings, July 10 and July 17,6pm-8pm at Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center , 2921 Tuckaseegee Road.  Scholarship forms to demonstrate financial need will be available at these registrations. Proof of need is required. Registration deadline is July 18.

Transportation will be provided to and from the golf courses each day for those who need assistance. Vans will pick them up beginning at 7:45am from Southview Recreation Center , Arbor Glen Recreation Center, Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center, West Charlotte Recreation Center, and Oaklawn Recreation Center. Program locations are:

  • Mondays: Revolution Golf Course,  2661 Barringer Dr.
  • Tuesdays: CT Meyers Golf Course, 7817 Harrisburg Rd.
  • Wednesdays:  Renaissance Golf Course, 1525 Tyvola Rd.
  • Thursdays: Sunset Hills Golf Course,  800 Radio Rd.
