Charlotte, NC— Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department announces that Winget Recreation Center, 12235 Winget Road in southwest Mecklenburg County, opens for business on Monday, February 25, 2008. 

This recreation center is located inside the gym at Winget Park Elementary School.  It is another “co-location” program between Park and Recreation and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS).   The elementary school will use the gym during school days, and Park and Recreation will operate the recreation center after school, evenings, and Saturdays. Programming in the recreation center will include:

• Start Smart T-Ball for boys and girls
• Kindergarten Day, a special day of special fun activities for young children
• Young Peoples’ Poetry Week

And the gym will be generally available at other times for basketball.
