Charlotte, NC—  Three finalist teams of 8th graders face off for the championship of Ray’s 2008 Black History Quiz Bowl on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at ImaginOn’s McColl Theater, 300 East 7th Street. Competition starts at 2pm.  

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County sponsor this event in honor of Black History Month (February).   The championship finals follow an elimination tournament among ten schools that was held earlier this week.

Each school has five students on a team (which includes two alternates).  Teams represent middle schools or junior high schools. Students compete in answering questions of increasing complexity for points and prizes.  Questions on the black experience will include these topics:

• Sports
   
• Charlotte History
   
• Arts
   
• Inventions
   
• and Firsts
