TOP AMATEUR BOXERS FROM ACROSS NORTH CAROLINA COMPETE MARCH 1 IN STATE GOLDEN GLOVES TOURNAMENT

Charlotte, NC--  Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and Charlotte Boxing Academy host the North Carolina Golden Gloves Tournament, Saturday evening, March 1, 2008.  Boxing begins at 6:30pm, with bouts running well into the night at Sugaw Creek Recreation Center, 939 Sugar Creek Road.

This tournament features about 40 of the best amateur boxers across North Carolina, ages 17-34.  They represent 11 boxing clubs and will compete in11 weight categories.  Eight boxers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg are expected to compete.

Admission for spectators is $15 for ages18 and older, $5 for 11-17, and free to 10 and younger.  Winners in the Golden Gloves Open category (boxers with ten bouts or more) will advance to the Regional Golden Gloves Championships in Knoxville, TN March 26-29.  The March 1 card in Charlotte also includes Junior Olympics, novice, and women’s bouts.
