In September of 1983, 130 participants from Charlotte, Wilmington and Asheville, came to Charlotte to participate in an Olympic style competition that later evolved into Senior Games. Since then, North Carolina Senior Games has grown to serve 50,000 participants in 100 counties through 53 local games. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Games serves Mecklenburg, Gaston and Lincoln counties.
