The Therapeutic Recreation Division provides several programs for adults with physical and/or developmental disabilities. The TR staff assists the individual in enhancing their leisure and recreational interests by offering a variety of programs and services that support independence, creativity and skill development. The focus is always on the ability of the individual within the limits of his or her disability.
Young Adult Day Program -The YADP is a community-based program for adults ages 18 and up with a disability. The program focuses on individual enrichment through personal growth, service learning, community involvement and offers supports in: daily skill development in personal relationships, etiquette, personal safety, appropriate social/personal boundaries and managing personal finances. The YADP will start Sept. 4th and meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00pm-5:00pm and is held at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. The fee for the program is $15.00 per day. Shining S.T.A.R. (Socializing Through Activities and Recreation)-for adults ages 18 and up with brain injury, head trauma, or other cognitive impairments. Calling all the old as well as the new participants...S.T.A.R. is back and better than ever! TRace (Transitioning Resources for Adults through Community Enrichment) Program - for adults with disabilities. The TRace Program is a goal-oriented, enjoyable experience for adults with disabilities ages 18 and over. This ongoing program will follow the CPCC school calendar, meeting on Mondays. Participants will attend community outings, art and music therapy, swim, discuss current events and much more! Parent-participant assessments will be completed prior to enrollment. STAR Gazin' in the Community - for adults ages 18 and up with brain injury, head trauma, or other cognitive impairments. Join us as we take trips to see the sights in and around Charlotte. We will visit places like the Schiele Museum, the NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame, Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve and more! Participants should be independent in activities of daily living.
