In September 2008, Partners for Parks and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation introduced the first community built, universally accessible playground project. This enormously successful community project changed the way we think of play and playgrounds!
The people of Mecklenburg County came together and created a truly accessible and inclusive playground and play area that surpassed anything that was built previously in the County system.
The playground has a NASCAR theme and to make it a true NASCAR experience, Mr. Humpy Wheeler was our honorary chairman!

About Our Concept
For many years, people in the community have talked about creating an inclusive play opportunity. We have hoped for a place where all children can play together and learn about differences, similarities, community and friendship.
We have built a playground where all children, regardless of ability can play together. A place where the joy of being able to play is important.
The playground was designed by Leathers & Associates which specializes in community-built playgrounds.
