| PROJECT HISTORY: |
Funds were allocated for this project from the 2004 Park Bond Referendum Partnerships Grants Program. Friendship Missionary Baptist Church applied for the grant and was awarded $2M for this project. In a first for Mecklenburg County, the County will lease approx. 20 acres from the Church in a long-term Lease Agreement and will build the park amenities for public use. A site master plan was developed by In-House Park Planning Staff and approved by the Church, the Northwest Park District Advisory Council and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. |
| PROJECT SCOPE: |
Phase I of this facility will include two softball fields, parking and a restroom building. |
| STATUS/TIMELINE: |
Construction documents are currently being prepared and will be out to bid in the Fall of 2009. Construction is expected to begin in the winter of 2009 with an expected opening winter, 2010. |
