Oaklawn Recreation Center is now open and will progressively add new programs and services for the residents of Mecklenburg County.  The Center is located in the diverse Park at Oaklawn Neighborhood.  We welcome all to stop and tour the amenities the facility offers.

The Oaklawn Recreation Center is a partnership venture with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and the Charlotte Housing Authority.  Other program partners that will utilize the facility are the YWCA, Bethlehem Center Head Start, Anita Stroud Foundation Afterschool and Charlotte-Mecklenburg School.

YOUTH

OPEN GYM:
Gym will be available for youth 17 years old and under on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00pm - 6:00pm.

Anita Stroud Foundation Afterschool Program:
This is a tutorial program for elementary school students Grades K through 6th.  For more information contact Nancy Stroud at 704-779-3047.

Tiny Crafters: Let you little artist make and take their crafts for you to display.  Saturday at 12:00PM $5.00 for 6 weeks.

Spring Cheerleading:
Ages: 4 - 14
Fee:  $55 (includes trophy and uniform)

Baseball Season is here!
Ages 4 - 14
Fee: $55.00 (Incliydes trophy and uniform)

TEENS:

YWCA - Youth Development Afterschool Program:
Registration will begin in August for the 2007 - 2008 after-school program.  Open to ages 11 - 15.  For more information contact Ms. Navonda Fetterson at 704-336-6858.

Movies at the Park:
Enjoy a movie and snck, while your parents take a break.  Friday nights 6:00pm -8:30pm.  Cost $2.00

Teen Game Night: Thursdays 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

Learn to Play African Drums: 8-week course, learn the skill of drumming
Fee:  $5.00

Teen Summit:  Promoting self esteem, decision making, and life skills
Ages: 14 - 17
Time: 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Join 4-H Club:  Meet 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5:00pm.

Fit & Fun Session:
Learn techniques to say fit and improve endurance.  Daily at 4:30pm.

Girlz Time Out:  Different activities and events.  The 4th Friday of each month at 6:00pm.


ADULTS:

Ladies Night Out:
Designed for ladies 25 and older who want to take a break from children, work and have a little extra fun away for the day-to-day activities.  Ladies will meet on the 3rd Friday of each month at 6:30pm to discuss and plan field trips and activities.

Oaklawn Silver Dolls:  It's Our Ladies Night Out! 25  & up Fridays, 6:30pm -9:00pm.

Open Gym:
Gym will be available for adults on Saturdays and Sundays, 2:30pm - 4:30pm (times subject to change).
Fee: $2.00, patrons 18 and older will need to show proper ID.

Oaklawn Walking Club: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 9:00am - 10am.

Pampering & Spa Day:  April 12, 2:00pm -3:00pm
Fee:  $10.00

SENIORS:

Oaklawn Senior Rockers:
Will meet on the 3rd Friday of each month.  The Seniors will be a part of the District 8 Seniors Program.  The goal is to bring our seniors out of the house and into the gym to work out and have fun.

Basic Computer Classes for Seniors:
6-week course, designed to teach the basics of how to use the computer, navigate the internet, and learn Microsoft office.
Fee: $10.00 Tuesdays and Thursdays at
10:30 am - 11:30am.

ALL AGES:

Calligraphy Classes for Beginners:  Tuesdays
and Thursdays 10:30am- 11:30am.
Fee: $5.00, 6-week session.

Modeling Classes:  Thursdays at 6:30pm, 8-week session.
Fee:  $5.00

Sign Language Classes:  Thursday at 5:00pm
Learn the basics of sign language.
