Walking Programs

AARP/NRPA 10 Week Walking Program
The AARP/NRPA10 Week Walking Program Kick Off will take place on April 11th from 11am-1pm. Freedom Park's Mahlon Adams Pavilion at 2435 Cumberland Avenue will be the site for a health fair, vendors, entertainment, prize drawings, equipment demonstrations and an opportunity to "Step Around The Lake". 

Free step-counters and participant guides will be given to those signing up for a walking group. Become eligible for "touches and rewards" to be awarded weekly. Walking sites include: Freedom Park, McMullen Creek, McAlpine Creek, Mallard/Clarks Creek, Irwin/Wesley Heights/Stewart Creek Greenways and Huntingtowne Park. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Games, Fit City Challenge, Johnson and Wales University, Foot Solutions and N'Shape With'N, LLC have partnered with AARP and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation for this healthy endeavor.

FIT CITY CHALLENGE
Fit City Challenge members, come use our parks and facilities to get your "5" miles in a week. We have numerous parks, greenways and walking trails throughout the county for you to enjoy. Listed below are many facilities to take in a walk in our great natural surroundings.  Also visit www.fitcitychallenge.org for more info on the Challenge.

A free two week trial membership to our Fitness Centers is available for all Fit City Challenge participants. Just register for the Challenge at www.fitcitychallenge.org, print out a copy of your fitness log as proof.

Fitness Centers
Raining, too hot or cold to walk outside….well, we have an alternative for you. For a nominal fee you can use a treadmill in one of our fitness centers located at the following facilities. Each fitness center also has other cardiovascular equipment and weight machines for your use.
