Located on the Catawba River, Charlotte-Mecklenburg has some of the best water-based recreation areas in the country.  Whether it's Lake Norman, Mountain Island Lake or Lake Wylie, our facilities will help get you in the water.  

Paddleboat Rentals:

    • Rentals from noon – 8:00PM (last rental at 7:30PM) daily.
    • The cost is $2.00 per 1/2 hour  and $4.00 per hour per boat.
    • Ages 4 yrs - 11 yrs must ride with person 18 or over.
    • Ages 12 yrs - 15 yrs must have 2 persons in a boat (1-4 persons per boat).
    • Each person must wear a life jacket and sit in a seat.
    • Fishing is not allowed while riding paddleboats.
    • Animals are not allowed on paddleboats.
    • There are NO boat launching services at this facility.

Motorized Boat Launching:
Boat launch fees are collected at the following facilities on weekends and holidays from March 1 to October 31.  $5/boat for Mecklenburg County residents.  $8/boat for non-County residents.

Canoe/Kayak Launching:
The following facilities offer launch sites for canoes, kayaks and other non-motorized watercraft.  No launch fees are required.

    Visitors with their own canoes and kayaks can launch directly into Lake Wylie from the landing located near the waterfront deck

    Visitors with their own canoes and kayaks can launch from either the North Canoe Access directly into Mountain Island Lake or from the Gar Creek Canoe Access into the Gar Creek inlet.
