Al Simpson is the head instructor at the boxing academy. Coach Simpson routinely coaches some of the best amateur boxers in the United States. His boxers frequently win Golden Gloves, Silver Gloves, and Boxing USA championships. Simpson is a former US Army boxing coach and a former trainer of US Olympic teams. Now he coaches about 35 boxers ranging in age from 8-17 at Charlotte Boxing Academy, 2019 North Tryon Street, in the Ultimate Gym building. The program is open to boxers of any skill level with special classes for beginners. Monthly charge applies.
Contact Coach Simpson for more information at 704 372-0140 (office) or 704 241-0314 (cell).
The academy prohibits boxers from using alcohol, tobacco, drugs, foul language, being gang members, or dropping out of school. Coach Al Simpson organized a system to fine his boxers $2 if they ever say a curse word at the academy. At the end of the year the money goes for a party for the participants.

The program welcomes beginners and experienced boxers. Many want formal competition in the ring with dreams of going to the Olympics. Others just want the conditioning program that boxing offers.
